Week 6 - Flooring
for this weeks reading/topic I learned about flooring, a lot of people think that flooring is just for aesthetics and making a room look nice. It's actually way more than that, we have to think about the type of material that has to be used, depending of the space, the intent of the design, and see what types of material are more sustainable.
in the presentation I learned that there are three types of floor framing systems: wood, steel, and concrete. wood floor framing systems have two type of framing systems. light framing and heavy timber framing. light framing, uses multiple joists to carry a load, while heavy timber framing uses columns and beams

steel floor framing, has two types of floor framing systems. it can be light gauge which means that there are multiple web like open joists. another system is concrete with metal decking, it relies on columns and beams that carry a metal decking where concrete is poured into.
concrete is another flooring system where it is poured in site or cast a plant and assembled on site.

flooring was also mentioned in the chapter and it talked about the many different types of materials and patterns you can do with it, but it was also important to note that some of the materials have a limited supply and it's important to know where the materials origin is and how well will it hold up with loads, ut all depends on the intent of the design.
a store I wasn't able to attend but I found a store online I saw that was really interesting was "Studio41" they're a company that specialize in cabinetry, bathrooms, kitchens, flooring and windows. Their selection features a wide variety of flooring including vinyl, stone, wood, and glass. I love the pattern natural has in their website and you can see how shiny it is, natural stone can be used in residential homes in a kitchen or in a bathroom to give it a more sophisticated look and luxury. it is extremely durable but it is really expensive, it also becomes really cold in the winter but it is good for radian sub heating compatibility which allows for sub heating coils.

Hi Marco! I really liked how you explained that flooring is more than just an aesthetic choice and that the material needs to fit the purpose of the space. I also thought it was interesting learning about natural stone and how its durability and luxury come with some drawbacks, like cost and temperature.
